Recently we received an inquiry from someone in our community who told us how much she wanted to wear Lené clip in extensions because they matched her texture exactly, but that her hair was too short for it. That got us thinking about the misconception there is out there that your hair has to be a certain length in order to wear clip-ins. Well we’re here to finally break that misconception - sis, there’s no minimum length amount you need for clip in extensions (yes we said it!). As long as you have some amount of hair, you too can rock your clip-ins without anyone having a clue - read on to learn how!
When we launched Lené, we came with a specific purpose. To make sure that every curl friend had access to premium quality hair extensions and a luxury shopping experience. So we wanted to make sure that we had options suitable to everyone. Our premium clip in extensions come in weights of 120 grams, 225 grams, 330 grams and 535 grams. While 120g and 225 grams are perfect for those looking to add a bit of volume, or length to their hair. The 330 grams and 535 grams are perfect for those with extra voluminous hair and also for those that have very short hair. A good rule of thumb to go with is this - the greater the difference of length you want to add to your hair, the more weight you will need to blend it seamlessly into your hair.
For those with very short hair that want a dramatic difference in length, 535g is the perfect amount. 535g is essentially the amount of hair in a thick wig, but with only 10 minutes diy required to clip in the hair, none of the fuss of trying to blend the hairline and all the versatility of being able to clip in and clip out the hair whenever you want! Its a win-win!
So how exactly should short hair go about clipping the hair in to get a seamless finish? There are two methods - either the twist-clip method or the braid-clip method.
Twist Clip Method
The twist clip method involves twisting your hair as you would do for a twist out. Instead of untwisting all the hair though, you clip in the hair to the twists themselves and untwist only the hair that is left out of the clips. Spray your hair and the extensions with a bit of water and run your favorite curly hair products through both to blend your hair in with the extensions. Voila! The twist clip method was actually the method that we used on our model Sarai as shown in the pictures below.
Braid Clip Method
The braid clip method is similar to the twist clip method. You can either corn row, french braid or simply pin back your braids, then clip the extensions onto the braids, leaving out and unbraiding the parts of the hair at the front showing. To blend your hair with the extension, spray with a bit of water, apply your favorite curl cream through the extensions and your hair and see the magic that happens!
