While extensions are an amazing way to add volume and length to your curls (and finally live out your Rapunzel hair fantasies) - there’s almost nothing worst than hair not blending properly with extensions. Unfortunately there are more than a few sisters that have fallen victim to this hair disaster. So how do you make sure that your extensions blend so seamlessly that people ask for your overnight hair growth secrets - read on to find out!

Finding the right texture

The most important factor for making sure that your extensions blend with your curly hair is of course, finding a texture that matches your curl pattern perfectly! The more the extension pattern matches the texture of your natural curls, the more seamless and natural looking the curls will be. Lené is proud to offer 9 different textures, ranging from 2a to 4c so you can find your absolute perfect match!

Finding the right weight

The second most important factor is making sure that you choose the right weight. For our clip ins the rule of thumb here is - the larger the difference in length you want to go, the more weight you will want to add. If you only want to add more volume to your hair and not add a lot of length or you have fine hair, our 125g clip-ins are perfect for you. Those looking to add more length will be happy with our 220g clip-ins, this weight will be perfect for most people wanting to add more length and volume to their hair. If there is a significant length difference between your own hair and the length of the extensions, or you want extra voluminous hair - the 325g is going to be for you. Finally, for those with extra short hair that want to rock the versatility of clip in styles, our 525g weight is about the same amount of hair as a wig but without any of the hassle of trying to blend the hairline or the time it takes to install a wig. Ten minutes is all you need to completely transform your hair!

For our tape in extensions, the same rules apply. The larger the difference in length between your hair and the extensions - or the more volume you want to add - the more weight you need for the extensions.

Blending Clip in extensions

Blending clip in extensions with curly hair is similar to blending clip in extensions with straight hair. However most clip in tutorials will have you start clipping your extensions in at the bottom of your head and work your way up. To blend clip in extensions with curly hair, Lené suggests for the most seamless blend, starting to clip in halfway up your scalp instead, and concentrating more of your extensions on the top half of your head.

Our stylists have found that this method works best to blend curly hair extensions. Textures, head sizes and volume of hair come in many varieties so play around until you find what method best suits your curls!

Using styling products to blend the hair

The final step to ensure that your clips are blended perfectly with your curls is using styling products. In order to maximize the length of your curls, you want to minimize product buildup and use little product on your curls. After your extensions have been clipped in or installed spray your hair and the extensions with some water and rake your hands through both to blend your curls with the curls of the extension. Add product as necessary, raking your fingers through the extensions and your own hair.
